Airbus awards new engineering contracts to Assystem

Assystem, a France-based engineering specialist, has been selected by Airbus Defence & Space for its centres of services in Elancourt, Toulouse, and Munich, as well as a work package project in Bristol. These agreements demonstrate Assystem’s space and defence capabilities, cementing it as a strong partner to the world’s largest aerospace group.

Airbus has been utilising Assystem’s skills for some time now, and this new deal will further boost the smaller company’s reputation as it works to enhance its position within the defence and space sector.

Its centres of Elancourt, Toulouse, and Munich will supply various engineering services, such as mechanical design; hardware and software solutions; space electronics; electrical systems engineering; embedded surveillance systems; flight physics; cyber security; and C5ISR means (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance).

Julie de Cevins, Vice President Aerospace, Assystem, said: “Worldwide, very few engineering companies are able to offer in a single location such competencies. This is a true recognition of our capability on meeting high level expectations for military aircraft, satellites and launchers.”

These new contracts were awarded to Assystem due to its multiple specific competencies such as flight physics and development of hardware and software solutions, plus the capacity to offer them internationally. The current Assystem teams working for Airbus Defence & Space will double to around 100 engineers by 2018, and each sub-team will focus on a specific area: Elancourt on software, space and systems, surveillance systems, and cyber security; Toulouse on mechanical design and electrical systems; Bristol on space electronics; and Munich on flight physics.
