InnoEnergy's green innovations endorsed by VP of European Commission
The company welcomed Šefčovič last week and showcased the clean energy contributions of some of the Portuguese innovations it has supported. Šefčovič is Vice President of the European Commission and head of Energy Union, and has been working his way across Europe witnessing the continent’s green capabilities.
Šefčovič met with Andreia Fernandes, Portugal Country Manager, InnoEnergy and took in presentations about InnoEnergy’s work in Portugal, as well as some of the start-ups the company has supported.
Šefčovič said: “What I appreciate with InnoEnergy is its tailor-made support to help entrepreneurs develop promising and efficient energy solutions while always mindful that they have to conquer markets.
“InnoEnergy had a decisive role to play by being an enabler of the Energy Union through innovation.”
InnoEnergy is funded by the European Union and its function is to accelerate the progress of clean energy in Europe. Not content with simply providing investment, the organisation supports innovators with expert guidance and coordinates partnerships by utilising its extensive network.
Fernandes said: “It was an honour to join Commissioner Šefčovič and to showcase some of the fantastic innovations we’ve supported. To our innovators in Portugal and the rest of Europe, we hope that this shows how seriously the Commission takes clean energy innovation and demonstrates the value of InnoEnergy’s top-table network of policymakers and industry influencers.”
One of InnoEnergy’s Portuguese success stories, which was also exhibited to Šefčovič, is ProDrone. This Lisbon-based company uses highly customised unnamed aerial vehicles to inspect wind turbines in a safe and cost-effective way, and has been a long-term participant in the InnoEnergy programme. It won the 2015 InnoEnergy The Business Booster competition, beating 105 competitors.
InnoEnergy has also worked with Portuguese energy innovators BeOn and C2C New Cap, and is running four Masters’ programmes in the country to ensure the next generation of clean energy innovators.
“Portugal has already led the way in so many areas of clean energy – just look at Principle Power’s world-leading floating offshore wind technology, WindFloat,” said Diego Pavia, CEO, InnoEnergy. “We helped commercialise that project and are working to help Portuguese innovators lead in so many more. Commissioner Šefčovič’s kind words are a great validation of our work.”
