Cees van Gent has been appointed as JF Hillebrand's new Chief Executive Officer, effective from the beginning of October.

Van Gent replaces the outgoing Christophe Bernard at the German logistics giant, but what makes him the right man for the role?

Cees van Gent has the track record to succeed as JF Hillebrand's new CEO.

Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the 55-year-old started his career as a trainee at Danzas, working in his home city and in Basel. Switzerland.

After moving up through the ranks at various logistics companies, he held managerial positions at Nedlloyd and ABX Logistics, roles that prepared him for more responsibility in the next stage of his working life.

In 2005, he was appointed as CEO of DHL Freight Germany ahead of joining Lehnkering Logistics & Services as Group CEO two years later.

His success at Lehnkering led to his appointment as COE of Van Gansewinkel Group in 2012, where he oversaw a complete transformation of its business practices.

Prior to joining JF Hillebrand, van Gent operated his own company specialising in executive and non-executive directorships and investments in various logistics sectors.

"Cees brings a combination of deep management expertise from leading multinational companies in areas such as logistics, infrastructure, and environment, with a match in our values around passion for service and customer intimacy," said Christof Hillebrand, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

"His appointment sets the company on a path which we are excited about, particularly for our 2020 Business Plan goals to digitise the customer experience and fast-track service innovation."

Van Gent added: "It is a great honour to be appointed CEO for JF Hillebrand Group. What makes this organisation special is its unique friendly and flexible, entrepreneurial, and decentralised culture.

"I look forward to accelerating the implementation of the 2020 Business Plan vision around customer centricity and innovation."
