Dirk Marzluf will oversee Grupo Santander's long-term strategy in the field of information management and operations from September 1.
The German national, educated the University of Karlsruhe, will join the Spanish bank from AXA Group, where he has served as Group Chief Information Officer for the last five-and-a-half years, managing a workforce of 5,000 employees in 15 countries.
During his time at AXA, Marzluf led the insurance group’s technology and information security transformation, its overall project portfolio and was co-sponsor of its digital strategy. Previous leadership roles include positions at Accenture, Daimler Chrysler and Winterthur Group.

"Dirk is a proven IT and Ops senior executive in both strategy and execution," said Ana Botin, Executive Chairman of Banco Santander. "His experience in leading large multi-country organisations through successful change will serve Grupo Santander well as we continue to transform our business into the open financial services platform we aim to be."
Santander's CEO José Antonio Álvarez added: "We face both opportunities and challenges in our technology and operations functions and I am very pleased that Dirk is joining us to lead them. He brings years of experience in organizations with technological expertise and we welcome him to Banco Santander."
Marzluf's appointment has been approved by the Grupo Santander Board of Directors and is pending regulatory approvals. He will report to Álvarez and be based in London and Madrid.
