Santander joins list of potential buyers for Eurobank
The Spanish bank, Santander, has joined the list of potential buyers of Eurobank, the Polish firm owned by Societe Generale.
According to a recent report by Reuters, sources from the banking industry have claimed the company’s interest in the sale.
Eurobank is ranked as the 17th largest bank in Poland, with it’s assets valued at PLN14bn (US$3.77bn).
The company made a net profit of PLM103mn ($27.7mn) in 2017.
Recent reports by Reuters have suggested that Societe Generale was considering the sale of its subsidiary, but remains undecided.
“Santander BZ WBK (BZW.WA) will be in the game,” stated a source from the banking industry.
The source also noted that Credit Agricole, the France-based bank, was on the list, whist a separate source reaffirmed Santander’s position.
Millennium bcp, the Portugese financer, has also been named as an interested company.
Reuters also reported that sources had claimed the acquisition would valued in the hundreds of millions of Polish zlotys.
