The French auto manufacturer, Renault, is reportedly aiming to restart a merger discussion with Japan’s Nissan.

The company aims to have merger talks with the manufacturer within 12 months, according to the Financial Times.

Renault also aims to acquire another automaker, and is considering the acquisition of the Italian American automaker, Fiat Chrysler.

Both Renault and Nissan have revealed they want to focus on an alliance prior to altering their capital structures.

The news of launching merger talks follows the creation of a new alliance board, which is led by Jean-Dominique Senard.

Fiat Chrysler is interested in either a partnership or merger, with the company’s chairman John Elkann meeting with rivals.
