Startup Spotlight: mindflick, improving performance in individuals and teams
As we step into a new year, and also a new decade, we continue our Spotlight Series on the top startups to watch by catching up with Ex-England Cricket captain, and CEO of mindflick, Andrew Strauss.

Hi Andrew, what is mindflick?
mindflick is a psychological design company that combines years of experience crafting success at the highest level of elite sport with cutting edge psychological knowledge and design thinking to improve the performance of both individuals and teams.
Founded in 2013, we specialise in making performance psychology accessible and relevant to the modern world. Led by myself, the team use the expertise gained through years of experience working in the world of professional, Olympic, and Paralympic sport to make the lessons they’ve learnt simple, accessible, and relevant to a range of high performing clients, including Premier League champions, City-leading institutions, and Michelin starred restaurants.
We do this by designing and delivering our own cutting edge tools to help our clients fulfil their potential by developing greater self-awareness, maximising their unique talents and recognising when they need to change. We help our clients to transform the way they fundamentally work, helping their people and teams to become more resilient, adaptable, and innovative.
In partnership with our clients, we seek to understand their unique context, before designing programmes of support that harness existing strengths and maximise their unique edge. Our programmes are always designed to empower our clients, giving them the skills, tools, and frameworks to embed these positive changes for the long term.

What gives your company its competitive edge?
Our team is what sets us apart from the crowd. It takes a diverse set of skills, personalities and points of view to build a great team, and we have experts in performance psychology, research, design, and business. Between us we have decades of experience and success within the world of professional, Olympic and Paralympic Sport and are able to use the lessons we’ve learned and apply them to many other high performance environments.
Located in the beautiful Peak District, our barn is a hub of psychology, design, consultancy, training and research. We design and deliver our own cutting edge tools to help an array of high-performing clients fulfil their potential, and to allow practitioners, professionals, and coaches in high performance environments access the knowledge underpinning our work. This allows us to convey our expertise to as many people as possible in the world of elite sport, business, and beyond.
What aspect of mindflick to you take most pride in?
We are particularly proud to work with an array of high performing clients. Our clients are leaders, champions, pioneers and innovators. From working with Heston Blumenthal and his team at the three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck, to delivering an organisation-wide leadership program at Coutts Bank, our clients are leaders, champions, pioneers, and innovators.
Over the past six years, we have evolved and grown. Notably, we recently ran our inaugural mindflick event, at Lords cricket ground. We were delighted to welcome industry-leading experts from a plethora of sectors to the event, where they gathered to share many thought-provoking ideas.
Is there any exciting news you’d like to share with our Business Chief Europe readers?
mindflick is now entering a new phase. Since being founded in 2012, we have been a small team of four, who have combined the consultancy we do with continued work in elite-level sport. However, in recent months our team has expanded, and we are now in a position to grow as a business. The team and I are hoping this will allow us to continue making performance psychology more accessible and relevant to more clients and help individuals and teams in a huge variety of industries to fulfil their untapped potential.
What can we expect from mindflick this year?
We are hoping to hit the ground running, continuing to work with our existing clients and establish new relationships as we look to carry on making performance psychology more relevant and accessible to as many people as possible.
We are particularly excited to continue improving and honing our cutting-edge products – SpotlightPROFILE, our Personality profiling tool, SpotlightTEAMS, Our team performance measure, and Pig Wrestling, our problem cleaning framework. By doing this, we hope to continue to lead innovation within the world of performance psychology, helping organisations, teams, and individuals to adapt and perform in what is a rapidly changing world.
