WeFarm, a London-based peer-to-peer knowledge sharing platform, has been announced as the winner of UK-leg of The Venture.

As well as scooping a prize of £10,000, it’ll go on to take part in The Venture’s Accelerator Week in March, where all the finalists will receive intensive business training and bespoke mentoring from some of the biggest names in business.

WeFarm will also represent the UK in the global final in New York in July 2016, where it will compete with social entrepreneurs from more than 25 countries for a portion of the $1 million (over £700,000) in funding to take their business to the next level.

Accepting the award, Kenny Ewan, CEO of WeFarm, admitted: “Everyone at WeFarm is absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as the UK winner. It’s not just the funding on offer but the incredible opportunity to receive world-class business mentoring and global publicity, which could help us reach our equity investment goal of £2,300,000. By the end of 2017 we want to reach 2.9m users, build WeFarm 2.0 and launch in India so we’re delighted Chivas Regal is helping us on this journey.”

Soushiant Zanganehpour, The Venture’s Strategy and Selection Advisor, part of the panel who picked the winner said: "WeFarm’s business model was really impressive. The team is working with a very large, mostly disenfranchised, and almost totally unique, audience that are unconnected to any other platform and within just a year of launching has already facilitated 5.9 million interactions through SMS. With The Venture’s support and global platform, the next year for WeFarm could be quite exponential”.
